The road of hurt and suffering is always marked by hope. But we can not underestimate that this road can be lonely. Very lonely! It was lonely for Jesus, and it will be for those who follow in His steps.
“My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death,” He said to them. “Stay here and keep watch.” Mark 14:34 NIV
But—and I still find this very surprising, amazing and wonderful—over these lonely days, I have discovered within me a thankfulness for the lonely road I have been given and entrusted to travel. There tends to be less baggage, attachment to people or things and fewer expectations from many quarters.
Jesus was given an assignment from the word go, He knew His purpose and completed it. On the cross, He said, ‘it’s finished’.
When He had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed His head and gave up His spirit. John 19:30 NIV
He was lonely throughout the assignment but He finished it. What will people say of us during our assignment?
Walking the lonely path has brought me a tremendous understanding of what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ and to know Him not only as my Savior, but my Comforter, Sustainer, Hope, Provider and Strength. There is something about having our worldly comforts stripped away, and as the company around us drifts away. All that allows us to begin to experience the true depth, length, and height of Christ’s love for us.
The end of a matter is better than its beginning, and patience is better than pride. Ecclesiastes 7:8 NIV
The truth is that this too shall pass. Encourage yourself in the Lord of your salvation. Turn down all pity parties and refuse sympathetic comments from people.

I think what is sad is that most people do not know their assignment. So, they feel the suffering is meaningless. God has given us all meaning, even if the world thinks we are all irrelevant. we should encourage each other, and others who seem lost, to find that purpose in our lives, so we can have that hope you speak of.

One can be lonely alone. There are no broken expectations. Is it worse for those who are lonely with others. Although Jesus often wanted to take time to be alone he was never lonely – His life was a constant drink offering poured out for others in a dairy basis either in prayer or in person.
