Who do you hang out with?

Friendship is defined as a relationship of mutual affection between two or more people. Friendship is a stronger form of interpersonal bond than an association. John Kuebler’s famous quote goes like, ‘Show me your friends, and I’ll show you your future.”

The people you surround yourself with can help (or hurt) your career, relationships and future, so it is important to choose wisely. Those close to you can have an immense impact on your life, for good or for ill.

Be careful to surround yourself with the right people, because it has an impact on your success. It has been proven that the company we keep can influence our choices in several areas of our lives.

In the workplace for instance, deciding which colleagues to allow into the inner circle of trusted confidantes is particularly important when it comes to careers. No one likes to admit it, but we are constantly evaluating others in the workplace. It makes sense to present yourself in the best possible light, and that includes surrounding yourself with friends and mentors who are of good reputation themselves.

Most people waste years insisting on a friendship with a person who does not share their passion and commitment. In the name of loyalty, people fail to end obviously bad friendships. Some struggle on for fear of abandonment an being locked out of social circles that have become a pain and a burden.

People are often told DON’T QUIT! But I say to you, quit! Quit if a friendship keeps pulling you back. Quit if a friendship takes you away from the will of God. Quit if a friendship drains the energy out of you. Quit if those you hang out with drag you from your PURPOSE. Quit should you realize that you were in the company of wrong people. Quit if it makes things right and gets you back on track.

So beginning today, carefully evaluate those you consider friends or people you ‘hang out’ with. You may discover so much like I did! I am loving the freedom of being away from killer friends. I do not mind the loneliness while at it. Truth is that God is always by my side and the Holy Spirit richly dwells in my heart. He is the best companion after all.
